Born and raised in Silicon Valley, Joe Saxe is a dinosaur who values the precious individuality of hand-made artwork. His sense of craftsmanship comes from working as a carpenter and construction laborer. Joe aspires to the high ideals of the Arts and Crafts era. His work is really about people - the psychology of our relationships with each other, society, technology, and the natural world. For the last several years, Joe has been focused on creating durable, permanent art for public spaces. He wants to create art that will help make community spaces more interesting, warmer places to inhabit. Joe hopes his works will provoke thought, and also serve as beautiful decorative objects. He also served as a project manager for San Jose’s public art program for two years, where he worked with concrete, metals, tile, and glass fabricators to facilitate the creation and installation of other artists’ concepts.
